Health funds and HICAPS at Magical Smiles Point Cook
Magical Smiles Point Cook accepts most private health funds and claims your benefit on the spot through HICAPS, so you pay only the gap. Your fund and policy decide how much is covered.
Using your health fund
Bring your health fund card to your appointment at 220 Point Cook Road. The front desk lodges the claim through HICAPS using the item numbers for your treatment, where your fund supports it. You pay any gap between the fee and your fund benefit before you leave. Dental visits at a practice are claimed under general treatment cover, also called extras or ancillary cover. The Australian Government's privatehealth.gov.au explains that general treatment policies cover treatments outside hospital, such as dental, but not every policy covers every service, and nearly all general treatment services are covered only to a limited extent.
What affects your benefit
- Your level of extras cover, annual limits and waiting periods. Limits can apply per service, per year or over your lifetime. Your policy's Private Health Information Statement sets these out, and your fund can tell you how much of this year's limit is left.
- The treatment you have and the item numbers that apply to it.
- Your health fund's current benefit schedule and terms. If you've just joined a fund or upgraded your extras, you usually need to serve waiting periods before you can claim. privatehealth.gov.au says each insurer sets its own extras waiting periods: generally two to six months for items such as general dental, and up to 12 months or more for major items such as orthodontics. Check your dates with your fund before you book larger treatment.
Confirm your cover
Before larger treatment, ask us for the item numbers and give them to your fund to check your cover, limits and waiting periods. Magical Smiles does not decide fund approval or benefit amounts.
Fees vary according to individual needs and the treatment provided. Ask the practice for a personalised written quote before deciding.
Our payment options overview and the humm page explain ways to spread any gap that remains. Eligible children may be covered by the Child Dental Benefits Schedule instead; ask the team when you book. Eligible children can claim up to $1,158 over two calendar years (or $1,132 if their two-year period began in 2025) under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. Services Australia (page last updated 15 April 2026) says to mention CDBS when you book. You don't need to bring the eligibility letter, because the dentist checks your child's eligibility and available benefit at the appointment. If your Medicare online account is linked to myGov, you can check the remaining balance there.
