Invisalign: a guide for Point Cook patients

Invisalign is a clear aligner system that straightens teeth with a series of custom, removable trays instead of brackets and wires. Magical Smiles Point Cook offers Invisalign, and clear aligner treatment starts from $4,500 per arch. Here's how it works, who it suits, what affects the cost and what wearing the trays is really like.

Invisalign in brief

Invisalign straightens teeth using clear, removable trays rather than brackets and wires. Each tray is made to move your teeth a little closer to the position mapped out in your treatment plan, and you move on to the next tray in the series roughly every one to two weeks. Most people wear their trays for about 20 to 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat, drink and clean their teeth.

Magical Smiles Point Cook offers Invisalign, and your consultation still focuses on your teeth rather than a single brand. If another aligner system or fixed braces would suit your case better, we'll tell you, and let you know which options are currently available at our clinic.

Why so many people ask about Invisalign

Invisalign has been around for many years and is used for a broad range of cases, from simple crowding to more involved bite corrections. It has its own tray material and planning software, which is why plenty of patients arrive already asking for it by name.

That doesn't make it the automatic answer for everyone. Some cases are better suited to a different aligner system or to fixed braces. The only way to know is an examination, which is exactly what happens at your consultation.

Invisalign or another aligner system?

Other clinically recognised aligner systems exist, including Angel Aligners; ask us which are currently available at Point Cook. For milder crowding and spacing, the experience is much the same: a treatment plan, a series of removable trays and regular reviews. The systems differ in tray material, the range of cases they're typically used for and the plan your teeth need. We'll recommend a system because it suits your case, not because of a brand preference. Our clear aligners page compares the options in more detail.

How Invisalign treatment works

1. Consultation and records. We check your teeth, gums and bite and talk about what you'd like to change. Planning uses records of your teeth, such as photos and a digital scan or impressions; ask at your consultation how yours will be taken. If your gums need care first, we'll plan that before any tooth movement.

2. Your plan. From your records we map out how your teeth should move and estimate the number of trays and months involved. It's a plan, not a promise, because every mouth responds at its own pace.

3. Wearing your trays. Each tray is worn for most of the day and night and swapped for the next as directed, coming out only to eat, drink and clean.

4. Progress reviews. We check that your teeth are keeping pace with the plan and fine-tune the sequence if something needs correcting.

5. Retainer. When treatment finishes, a retainer holds your teeth in place while they settle. Wearing it as advised protects your result.

Who Invisalign tends to suit

Clear aligners work well for many adults and teenagers with mild to moderate crowding, gaps or a bite that's slightly off. They're a good match if you'd like treatment to stay low-key and you're ready to commit to consistent daily wear, since the trays only work while they're in.

They may not be the first choice if your bite needs complex correction, if you'd rather not have to remember an appliance, or if a younger child is still growing and early intervention is on the table. Our orthodontics page compares all the options in one place.

Living with Invisalign trays

The first few days with a new tray usually bring a feeling of tightness, which settles as your teeth move. Some people notice a slight lisp at the very start of treatment; it generally fades as your tongue gets used to the trays.

  • Meals: take trays out to eat and for any drink other than plain water, then brush before putting them back.
  • Cleaning: rinse trays in cool water and clean them gently. Hot water can warp them.
  • Case: always store trays in their case when they're out, so they don't end up wrapped in a napkin and thrown away.
  • Out and about: carry your case, a toothbrush and a small toothpaste so you can put trays back in after eating out.
  • Problems: if a tray cracks, goes missing or stops fitting, call us on (03) 8338 1515 rather than forcing it or skipping ahead.

What affects the cost

Clear aligner treatment at Magical Smiles starts from $4,500 per arch. Your fee depends on how much movement is needed, the number of trays and reviews, any care needed first and your retainer. We confirm the exact cost in writing after your assessment, and our budget calculator gives an indication of repayments in the meantime.

Ways to pay

We accept most health funds with on-the-spot HICAPS claims, so extras cover that includes orthodontics can often be claimed at the desk. To spread the cost, we also offer Humm, Afterpay, the National Dental Plan and SuperCare for early release of superannuation, each with its own terms and approval. See our payment options for details. Invisalign for a teenager? The Child Dental Benefits Schedule won't help with the aligners themselves, because Services Australia's guidance, last updated on 1 January 2026, lists orthodontic dental work among the services it doesn't cover. Eligible children can still claim up to $1,158 over two calendar years (or $1,132 if their two-year period began in 2025) for basic care such as check-ups, cleaning and fillings.

General dentist or specialist orthodontist?

Our Point Cook dentists, Dr Rachna Yadav and Dr Amolak Deep, are registered general dentists, not specialist orthodontists. Many Invisalign cases can be managed in general practice. If your bite would be better treated by a specialist orthodontist, we'll tell you. You're also free to go directly: healthdirect's guide to orthodontists, last reviewed in November 2024, notes that you don't need a referral to see one, whether as a new patient or for a second opinion.

Invisalign: common questions from Point Cook patients

How much does Invisalign cost in Point Cook?

Clear aligner treatment at Magical Smiles Point Cook starts from $4,500 per arch. Your fee depends on how much your teeth need to move, how many trays are needed and any care required first. You'll get a written quote after your assessment, and our budget calculator can estimate repayments.

How long does Invisalign take?

It depends on how far your teeth need to move and how consistently you wear the trays. Simple cases may take a matter of months, while more involved cases take longer. We'll give you an estimated timeframe in your written plan after assessing your teeth.

Is Invisalign as effective as braces?

For many mild to moderate cases, clear aligners can achieve a result similar to fixed braces while being removable and less visible. Some complex tooth movements are still better handled with braces, and we'll tell you honestly if yours is one of them.

Do I need a retainer after Invisalign?

Yes. Teeth tend to drift over time, so a retainer, usually worn on a reducing schedule, is part of every aligner treatment we provide. It's what helps keep your teeth where they've moved to.

Can I eat and drink with Invisalign trays in?

Take your trays out to eat and to drink anything other than plain water, then brush before putting them back in. It keeps the trays clear and your teeth protected, and it's the main habit to build during treatment.
