Snap-On Smile in Point Cook: try a new look before anything permanent.

Snap-On Smile at Magical Smiles Point Cook is a thin, custom-made arch that clips over your natural teeth to cover stains, gaps and chips, then comes out whenever you like. Nothing is drilled or bonded, so your teeth stay exactly as they are. It suits some people very well and others not at all, so this page covers both sides before you book.

Does this sound familiar?

Sometimes you want something reversible.

Not every cosmetic concern needs a long treatment plan, and not everyone is ready for a permanent change. Sometimes you want something that works straight away and can be undone. These are the usual reasons people ask.

For the full range of treatments, visit our cosmetic dentistry page.

An event is coming up sooner than longer treatment could realistically be finished.

You'd like to see the look first before agreeing to anything that changes a tooth.

Drills and injections put you off, and you'd rather avoid both.

You're saving for veneers, crowns or implants and want something that works in the meantime.

If a few of those ring true, Snap-On Smile is worth understanding. It sits alongside the other options rather than replacing them, which is the part a sales pitch tends to skip.

The plain-English version

What is Snap-On Smile?

Snap-On Smile is a thin, tooth-coloured arch made from a mould of your teeth. It grips using the natural contours of your teeth, with no cement, no preparation and no change to the tooth itself. While you wear it, it disguises staining, small gaps, chips and mild crowding.

Because it sits on top, it doesn't move your teeth or treat anything underneath; decay or gum disease needs treating first. It's designed for daytime and social wear, comes out overnight and for cleaning, and should be removed before eating anything hard, sticky or very hot.

Three ways to change how your smile looks

Snap-On Smile, veneers or dentures: which fits?

Snap-On Smile comes up in the same conversation as porcelain veneers and dentures, but it isn't a substitute for either. Here's what each one is really for.

01 / Removable

Snap-On Smile

Clips over your natural teeth to cover staining, gaps, chips and slight crowding. Nothing is drilled and it comes out whenever you like. It doesn't move teeth or treat what's underneath, and how long it lasts depends on wear and care.

Removable · no drilling · reversible
02 / Long-term

Traditional veneers

Thin porcelain facings bonded to the teeth after a small amount of preparation. A long-term option that holds up well with good care. The preparation can't be reversed, which is the trade-off against a removable arch.

Bonded in place · needs preparation · long-term
03 / A different job

Dentures

Replace teeth that are missing rather than covering teeth that are still there. Available as partial or full sets depending on how many teeth are gone. The right conversation when the issue is missing teeth, not how existing teeth look.

Replaces missing teeth · partial or full · a different purpose

The right option depends on whether your concern is appearance alone or missing teeth, and how permanent a change you want. That's all discussed at your consultation, and suitability varies from person to person. You'll get a written estimate after the examination.

Step by step

What happens, stage by stage.

Snap-On Smile has fewer steps than most cosmetic treatments. Here's the sequence from first conversation to everyday wear.

01 · Assessment.
Your dentist checks your teeth and gums, talks through your goals and confirms Snap-On Smile makes sense before anything is ordered.

02 · Impressions.
A detailed mould is taken of the arch or arches you'd like covered, capturing the contours the appliance will grip.

03 · Made in a lab.
Your arch is made off-site from those impressions, and we'll tell you how long that's expected to take.

04 · Fitting.
Fit, comfort and appearance are checked together, and small adjustments are made on the spot.

05 · Everyday wear.
Wear it during the day and take it out overnight and at meals. Regular check-ups matter, because changes in your teeth or gums can loosen a good fit over time.

A clarifying question, not a sales pitch

Is this the right option for you?

It suits a lot of people, and it's the wrong choice for others. Here's a starting point; your assessment settles the rest.

This tends to suit you if…

  • —You'd like to see a different smile before committing to anything permanent.
  • —Something's coming up soon and a simple, removable option would help.
  • —You'd rather avoid drilling, injections or any change to your natural teeth.
  • —You're saving toward veneers, crowns or implants and want something in the meantime.
  • —Your teeth and gums are healthy, or any decay or gum problems have already been treated.

It might not be the first option if…

  • —Teeth are missing altogether, which points to dentures or implants instead.
  • —Decay or gum disease hasn't been treated yet and needs attention first.
  • —You want one permanent solution rather than something you'll replace later.
  • —Comfort through long meals and conversations matters more to you than photos.

An unhurried first conversation

Before you decide anything

Start with the conversation, not the product.

You don't need to arrive knowing which option is right. Your first appointment is a smile makeover consultation, not a Snap-On Smile booking or a pitch: just an honest look at what your smile could realistically involve and what it might cost.

Plenty of people talk themselves out of asking because they assume the cost and stop there. The consultation swaps assumptions for information: how Snap-On Smile would look on you, how it compares with veneers or whitening, and which payment options are available.

There's no obligation to go ahead. Sometimes the answer isn't what you expected, including times when we advise against the treatment you came in asking about.

What the consultation covers

A proper look at your teeth, gums and goals, with no pressure to book anything afterwards.

Snap-On Smile compared with veneers, whitening and other options, so the comparison is real rather than imagined.

A written cost estimate for whichever option makes sense, rather than a generic price list.

Making it manageable

Get a feel for the cost.

See the numbers, then decide.

Because no tooth preparation is involved, the cost of Snap-On Smile is mainly the making and fitting of the arch rather than clinical work on your teeth. The number of teeth covered, and whether it's one arch or both, changes the figure. Your exact cost comes after an examination, but we can talk through instalment options now. We accept most health funds, with HICAPS claims processed on the spot.

About the estimator: it gives an indicative figure only for Snap-On Smile and the other cosmetic options shown, based on typical clinic pricing, and isn't a quote. The cost depends on how many teeth are covered and whether one or both arches are treated, and you'll always see the exact cost in writing once we've assessed your teeth. Repayment figures are illustrative and use Humm/NDP's own plan-fee formula for the term selected, so Humm's fees are included; finance is subject to Humm's eligibility criteria and approval, and may not be granted.

Good questions

Snap-On Smile questions we're often asked.

A removable arch made from a mould of your teeth, finished in a tooth-coloured material and held in place by the natural shape of your teeth. There's no adhesive and no drilling, and while you wear it, it covers staining, gaps, chips or slight crowding.
Veneers are bonded on after the teeth are prepared and are meant to be long-term. Dentures replace missing teeth. Snap-On Smile does neither: it clips over teeth you still have and comes out whenever you like, so it's a cosmetic cover rather than a permanent change or a tooth replacement.
Most everyday activities are fine, but meals aren't. It's designed to come out for eating, especially anything hard, sticky or hot enough to soften the material. Most people take it out at mealtimes, rinse, and put it back afterwards, and it always comes out for brushing and flossing.
It depends on what you want to solve. It suits people who'd like a reversible, non-invasive way to preview a new smile, or something temporary for an event or a period of time. It isn't suitable for missing teeth, untreated decay or gum disease, or anyone after a single permanent solution. Your dentist will tell you which applies to you.
That depends on how often you wear it, how you clean it and natural changes in your own teeth over time. We check the fit at your routine visits and will let you know when a replacement is worth considering, rather than waiting for it to fail.
It's a smile makeover consultation at our 220 Point Cook Road clinic. Your teeth are examined, Snap-On Smile is discussed alongside the other options, and you leave with a written cost estimate rather than a vague range. There's no obligation to go ahead.
