Nervous about the dentist? You set the pace.

Nothing happens without you · Ask to slow down, stop or take a break at any pointDental anxiety is common.
Being told to relax rarely helps.
Dental anxiety can come from a hard past experience, the sounds and smells of a clinic, a fear of pain or of losing control in the chair, or not knowing what's about to happen.
Some people also feel embarrassed about how long it's been since their last visit. The Point Cook team hears all of these reasons, and none of them needs explaining.
Regular patients can feel nervous too, or put off a clean because one treatment worries them. You can mention it at any visit.

It's been years
Two years or twenty, it doesn't matter. You'll get the same practical welcome and no judgement about the gap.
02Needles
The Wand delivers local anaesthetic at a slow, steady, computer-controlled pace through a pen-like handpiece. It still uses a fine needle; what changes is how the anaesthetic is delivered.
03The drill
Laser cavity treatment is quieter and has no vibration. Some small, early cavities may be treated without an injection; your dentist assesses whether it suits you.
04The whole appointment
Happy Gas, oral sedation and Penthrox are each discussed at a consultation first and matched to your health history and treatment.
05A nervous child
A first visit can be an introduction, not treatment. Your child meets the chair and the dentist at their own pace.
06Just talking first
A consultation can be just a conversation. Nothing is decided until you're ready, and you don't have to go ahead on the day.

Time to talk before any treatment.
You set the pace.
Your dentist talks you through each step before it happens, in plain English. You can ask to pause, slow down or stop at any point; that's a normal part of the appointment.
If something specific worries you, mention it when you book so the team can plan for it, or bring it up once you're in the chair.
Magical Smiles Point Cook is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm. If a quieter time of day would help, ask the team which times suit when you book.
What we won't promise.
We won't promise zero discomfort. No technique or sedation option can promise that. What we can do is explain, slow down and give you choices.
We won't pretend The Wand isn't a needle. It still uses a fine needle. The difference is a steadier, more evenly paced delivery than a manual push.
We won't say laser suits every treatment. Some procedures still need anaesthetic, and experiences vary. Your dentist assesses suitability at your consultation.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, please seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
