Children's check-up and clean in Point Cook.

A children's check-up and clean at Magical Smiles Point Cook takes about 30 to 45 minutes. We check teeth, gums and bite, give a gentle clean and polish, and talk you through anything to watch at home. Most children do well with a visit every six months from about age three to their late teens, when teeth and jaws change fastest. Eligible children can be bulk-billed under the CDBS.

Gentle, unhurried and a little bit fun: how a check-up should feel.
Why regular check-ups matter

Small things, caught early.

Children's mouths change constantly. Baby teeth arrive and then make way for adult teeth, the jaw grows, the bite settles, and habits both good and bad take hold. Most of this happens without any problem at all.

Regular check-ups keep small issues small. Early decay, a tooth coming through in the wrong spot or a habit starting to affect the bite are all easier to manage when we see them early. Just as important, your child learns that the dentist is a calm, familiar part of the year.

Why every six months?

Six months is a long time in a growing mouth.

In half a year, new teeth come through, others get wobbly, and brushing routines either stick or slip. Twice-yearly visits let us keep up with each change, and your child gets to know us long before they ever need more than a polish.

Skipping one isn't a disaster. It usually means another six months of not knowing, and the chance that the next visit happens on a day your child is already sore or worried. We'd much rather see them on an ordinary, easy day.

Clean vs check-up

Why not just a clean?

Because they do different jobs. The clean looks after the teeth today; the check-up keeps track of how everything is developing.

The clean

Tidying up

We remove the soft plaque and hardened build-up that brushing misses, then polish the teeth smooth. With your child's okay we may also apply fluoride to help strengthen young enamel. It's routine maintenance, and it leaves teeth feeling fresh.

The check-up

The thinking part

This is the dentist's part: checking how teeth, bite and jaw are developing, tracking baby teeth as adult teeth arrive, spotting problems early, and answering your questions about brushing, snacks or thumb-sucking. The clean keeps things tidy; the check-up keeps watch.

What the visit is like

What happens during the appointment.

No surprises and no scary words. Here's how a check-up and clean usually goes at our Point Cook clinic, so you both know what's coming next.

1

Settling in

We say hello and let your child look around first: the chair, the light, the little mirror, whatever catches their eye. Bring a favourite toy if it helps. We start only when they're ready.

2

A gentle look & a clean

We count the teeth, check the bite and any new teeth coming through, then give everything a soft polish, adding fluoride if it suits your child. We explain each step in everyday words and follow your child's pace.

A quick chat with you

Before you go, we'll tell you what we saw, anything to keep an eye on, and practical tips for brushing and snacks at home. Plain English, and a clear idea of what, if anything, comes next.

About 30 to 45 minutes, usually in one visit. If your child is having a tough day, we slow down or stop. There's no checklist we have to finish.

Who you'll see

A clinic set up for families.

Magical Smiles Point Cook is led by principal dentist Dr Rachna Yadav, with Dr Amolak Deep. Children's visits are calm and unhurried, and parents are always welcome in the room.

01 Unhurried

We keep children's visits gentle and paced to your child, never rushed. If today isn't the day for a polish, that's completely fine.

02 Familiar faces

Seeing the same friendly team twice a year is what slowly takes the fear out of the chair.

03 Built around families

Appointments at 220 Point Cook Road, Monday to Saturday, so you can fit visits around school and siblings. Bring the whole family and we'll try to book you in together.

Cost and CDBS

Worth more than a clean: a child who finds the dentist ordinary.

Brushing without a nightly battle. Feeling relaxed in the chair. Growing up without the dental nerves many adults carry from one bad childhood visit. That's the real value of regular check-ups.

The cost of a visit depends on your child's age and what they need, and we'll always tell you before we start. Many children qualify for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which provides up to $1,158 over two calendar years for basic dental care (or $1,132 if your child's two-year period began in 2025), and we bulk-bill covered services. Ask us and we'll check your child's eligibility and remaining balance.

Services Australia decides CDBS eligibility, not the clinic. The government sets benefit amounts and conditions, which can change, so please confirm current details with us or Services Australia.
